Silent Redmi notifications? Check the app before changing everything

A message that appears quietly and a message that never reaches the notification panel need different checks. As chief Redmi fan, I'd start with that distinction before touching a long list of settings. Here is a small, reversible check you can work through with one app.

First, describe what is missing

Ask someone who agrees to help to send one ordinary test message, or use a non-sensitive reminder you can reproduce. Write down the time, then look for the notification by swiping down. I'd keep the app and test the same after each change so the comparison means something.

Google distinguishes silent notifications from alerting ones on supported devices: silent alerts can remain in the panel without sound or vibration. A hidden lock-screen preview is also a separate setting. Redmi menus vary with model and installed software; use only controls your phone actually offers.

Check that particular app

If a notification is visible, Google's general Android method is to touch and hold it, then open Settings. Check the app's notification switch and any relevant category. Some apps also have their own notification controls.

For a concrete Redmi example, Xiaomi documents Settings, Notifications & status bar, App notifications on the Redmi 13C. Select the app and review its switch. That route is evidence for the 13C, not a guarantee of identical labels on every Redmi.

I'd note the original setting before changing it. Enable only the alerts you want, then repeat the same test. If the switch was already enabled, record that result rather than repeatedly toggling it and hoping.

Check Do Not Disturb if alerts are quiet

Google says Do Not Disturb controls interruptions and can be switched in Quick Settings where available. Check whether it is active, and whether a schedule explains the timing. Settings differ by phone; search your Redmi's Settings for Do Not Disturb if needed.

For a test, I'd temporarily turn it off only when interruptions are welcome, then restore my preferred setting afterwards. If the problem follows a regular evening or work pattern, I'd review that schedule before deciding the app itself is faulty.

Keep the next step specific

If the test still fails, record the Redmi model, MIUI or HyperOS version, app version, time and whether anything appeared in the panel. Share those observations with the app's support team or Xiaomi. These checks cover notification presentation and blocking; they do not establish why a service failed to deliver a message.

If your concern is sound across the whole phone, my Redmi 17 no-sound guide covers a different, model-specific set of checks. For broader first-day housekeeping, see the new Redmi setup guide.
